Central Water to install AMR meters
May 28, 2021
Central Water will soon begin the process of installing a new Automated Meter Reading System
What is an Automated Meter Reading System (AMR)?
Automated Meter Reading is the technology of automatically collecting consumption, diagnostic and status data from water meters and transferring the data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting (leak detection) and analysis. This system saves utility providers the expense of periodic trips to each physical location to read a meter. Another benefit is billing will be based on real-time consumption. This real-time data, coupled with analysis, can help both utility providers and customers better control water consumption (usage).
Automated Meter Reading systems can provide benefits for utilities and customers. Benefits will be recognized by the utilities with increased efficiencies and reduced labor costs from automating the reads.
How does the AMR system benefit customers?
AMR will improve billing and enhance the tracking of usage. AMR can also help alert you to household leaks so you are able to fix them before they become costly problems. You will continue to receive your water bills in accordance with your normal billing schedule.
With timely usage information available to the customer, benefits will be seen through opportunities to manage their own consumption.
What you need to do?
- You will be receiving a brochure in the mail that explains this process and includes a form so that you can provide CWA with accurate contact information, so that we will be able to contact you in the event of a leak or higher than normal usage. Please complete and return to CWA.
- Keep your meter accessible. We will no longer come to your meter monthly; therefore you need to keep it visible in the event that the meter needs to be turned off.
- PLEASE LEAVE BLUE FLAG LOCATED BESIDE METER. WE WILL REMOVE ONCE NEW AMR METER IS INSTALLED.
